Despite all rumora to tho contrary, the oomlo opera " Martha " is to bo a fixture for early April. Rehoarsaia are frequent and tho preparations well advanced, Mr. Pferdnor, the conductor, announcing that his prinoipala have nowmaatered their parts in all details, while tho chorus, which is being drilled by Mr. J. O. Brown, is well up to standird. It Includes twenty-eight ladies and twenty-twc gentlemen, while there are twenty pieces in the orchestra. Mr. F, Sehl performs the important duties of stage manager, while the business affairs are in the hands of Mr. C. W, Rhodes, who also aa-Bumes one of tho principal roles, the oom-ploto cast being as below :

Although Martha has been porformod hoio before, this will bo the first time that the opera will bo produced in its entirety professional companies having always out out some of tho parts. In tho coming amateur presentation not a note will bo omitted, and farther, every number will be rendered in tho original key intended by the author, as Mr. Pferdner will not allow any Infringement on. either text or nutslc. Staee rehearsala will'commence this week and also orchestra rehearsals. The orchestra will be ooinpoaed of twenty pibked musicians and will be the best and most oiriclent orohestra that haa supported local talont. The oostnmes aro ospeoially pro-pared and will be in keeping with the whole. The opera will be given on April 21 and 25, under the auepices of the Victoria Cricket Club.

Maude Grantjer oloaod her Victoria on-pagement yoatorday, presenting " Fringe of Society"β€”in whichaho oatablished her popularity hero liiat year. Special mention should be mado of the admirable manner in wiiioh Miss Dorothy Rossmore and Miss Ada LIvick took the parts aaslsgned them.
